World Class Manufacturing Business

Situation

A world-class manufacturing business extended their duty of care toward employees following the outbreak of the covid pandemic.  Wanting to ensure their workplace shared facilities were health safe for staff, management and VIP visiting guests, they engaged 360 Hygiene.

The company employed 20 people at its Hornby South site, including admin and warehouse staff.  Each department shared the main staffroom, four unisex washroom facilities and an open-plan office. General cleaning services were conducted twice a week.

Staff absences were felt sharply by the remaining team who had to pick up any extra workload to meet expectations and deadlines. Ensuring the workplace was “health safe” and any possible cross-infection or outbreak was well managed and minimised was of top priority to management.

Action Taken

360 Hygiene conducted a hygiene audit and calculated that washrooms were being used between 300 and 480  times between cleaning services. The staffroom was used between 240 and 560 times between cleaning services.  Hand washing rates showed only three people were washing hands effectively, 13 people attempting to wash effectively and four people not washing their hands at all.

The average number of sick days taken each year was 3.2 days per employee or 64 days a year in total.

A weekly workplace hygiene programme was implemented including the sanitisation of the washrooms and fixtures (toilets and hand basins) along with the cafeteria and touchpoints. Nano Shield antimicrobial surface protectant was applied to all fixtures and contact points including door handles, cubicle latches and light switches. This kills 99.99% of germs, viruses and bacteria upon contact and provides continuous protection for up to 14 days.

  • Cloth roller towel dispensers were replaced with paper towels to reduce the risk of cross-contamination
  • Hand sanitiser dispensers were installed at various entry and exit points
  • Ongoing hygiene audits were implemented every four months and certification to track and maintain hygiene gains made.
  • The results of the audits were shared with staff to verify the workplace was“health safe”, and to encourage an uplift in personal hygiene practices.

Result

The new hygiene regime was welcomed by staff and they quickly adapted. Adopting hygiene practices into daily routines and using hand sanitiser more frequently.

Raising awareness of microbial health and showing consideration for co-workers became the new normal.

Hygiene audit passes improved and staff felt reassured that management was behaving responsibly and cared about their health.  Good corporate behaviour pays dividends in multiple ways.  From reduced downtime to a cultural shift in attitudes toward health and safety - it's a win-win for the business and the workplace.

Ensuring the workplace was “health safe” and any possible cross-infection or outbreak was well managed and minimised was of top priority to management.
